PETER GUTTMANN, was a Captain in Company B of the 26th Regiment of Wisconsin Infantry Volunteers was enlisted into military service on the 19th day of August 1 862, by Charles A. Vocke at Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, for the term of three years, and was mustered into the military service of the United States on the 17th day of September 1862, by Captain R. E. Beecher in the field.

Captain Guttmann was appointed 1st Corporal on September 17, 1862, promoted to Sergeant on March 15, 1863, and to 1st Sergeant on June 15, 1864. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on November 1, 1864 and to Captain on April 20, 1 865 when he was transferred from Company D to Company B as Company Commander. On July 1, 1863 Captain Guttmann was wounded in the back of his head and left foot during the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He was mustered out with his company on the 13th day of June, 1865.

Peter was married on November 2nd, 1865 to Katerane Zeltuer in Milwaukee They had three children. She died on March 20th, 1879. Peter died on May 9th, 1901. He is burried at the “National House” Civil War Veterans Memorial Cemetery, V.A. Center of Milwaukee.
