John Ballhorn Sr., who resides on north 8th street over the furniture store died at an early hour Tuesday morning after going confined to his bed a week with pneumonia. Mr. Ballhorn had long been a sufferer from asthma and at times had been obliged to resided in Plymouth owing to the lake are being congenial to his health. Mr. Ballhorn was born in 1843 at Brandenburg, Prussia and came to this country in 1856 and settled at Gleneula where he lived fourteen years and conducted a furniture business and in 1886 he moved to his city. Mr. Ballhorn was married to Miss Louisa Suckow in Cascade, who together with seven children, two sons and five daughters, on of whom is married, Mrs. Martin Williams, North Ninth St. survives. He is also survived by on brother, Fred Ballhorn of Cascade, on sister, Mrs. John Wolters of this city, and two sisters who reside in Peoria, Illinois. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon, Rev. Wollbrecht officiating. He answered President Lincoln’s service call in 1862, enlisted in Co. H. Twenty-sixth Wisconsin volunteers, and served to the close of the war. He participated in the battles of Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Lookout Mountain, Mission Ridge, Resaca, and Peachtree Creek and was with Sherman in the Atlantic Campaign.
