John Cahill was from Janesville. He deserted on February 17, 1865 from Camp Randall. John was arrested in Madison on March 25, 1865. Later he deserted on April 24, 1865 while passing through a crowd of people at the depot in Chicago. The monthly report states “This man deserted immediately on arriving at Camp, undoubtedly enlisted for the purpose of deserting.”
