Lewis Manz was from Greenfield. He was wounded at Chancellorsville, in his hand causing permanent stiffening. Lewis was also captured at Chancellorsville, was held prisoner in Richmond, and after being exchanged, he rejoined the regiment in Tennessee; Lewis was discharged on September 2, 1864, due to his wounds. He was a member of the Robert Chivas Post No. 2, G.A.R. and also a member of the Twenty-Sixth Regiment Association. After the war he returned to Hales Corners and became a postal letter carrier for over fifty years. He retired in 1915 and died at the Soldiers’ Home as oldest letter carrier in U.S.
